Bamboo Flooring has become an extremely popular flooring material because it is environment friendly. Bamboo floors are manufactured from the bamboo plant and the species of bamboo that is used for flooring is known as “Moso“.

This flooring originally came in a horizontal or vertical construction type and only two colors- natural and carbonized. Now we have a whole range of colors to choose from, and a few more construction types. We can divide Bamboo flooring into the following types:

Horizontal- In this type, three layers of bamboo are laid at right angles to each other. This is done to give the flooring more stability. This type of flooring comes in a range of colors including; natural, carbon, coffee, chocolate, and caramel. Finishing can be matt, semi gloss and gloss.

Vertical-In Vertical type of bamboo flooring, the pieces are laid out vertically to one another and glued together. These are also available in a large range of colors and all the standard finishes.

Engineered-Unlike the above two constructions, engineered bamboo floors are not generally made up entirely of bamboo i.e. it is not 100% bamboo. This type of flooring is however, more durable, especially in the areas having high moisture and humidity.

How to take care of Bamboo Flooring

Here are some common but valuable tips to keep your bamboo floors shiny and scratch free.

Do not drag furniture across the floor. This will prevent your floor from getting scratches.

Put rubber pads under each furniture leg so that the floor doesn’t get prints of the furniture foot.

Place rugs and in places which are most frequently used.

Make sure that the back portion of the rug is non-abrasive and will not chemically react with the floors finish

Do not walk on the floor with high heels.

Keep any pets claws trimmed

Place a drip pan under potted plants, to prevent your floor from water sitting.

Immediately clean food and liquid spills with a slightly dampened cloth and dry the floor with a soft cloth or towel.

Use only wood floor cleaning products specially formulated for urethane finishes

Do not use wax, oil soap, common household cleaners, or any abrasive cleaners.

Bamboo floors are easy to install, simple to clean, highly appealing and very durable. Their main attraction is their sustainability and Eco-friendliness. Hence, they form a good choice for those who want to have beautiful flooring as well as fulfill their responsibility towards environment.
