Decorating a home shouldn’t just be confined to the interiors. Homeowners and decorators should let their imagination take over and create wonderful settings and themes in the garden, the patio, or even the backyard. In order to spruce up the external parts of a home, homeowners can put in different kinds of outdoor décor. Outdoor décor can be functional or just for show, and even both.

Different kinds of outdoor décor

Outdoor decor: boot brushes

For homeowners who are particular about the cleanliness of their floors, they can invest in decorative boot brushes that can be placed at the door step. They could ask guests to give their soles and even their whole shoes a buffing by stepping onto these and rubbing against the bristles. To add some whimsy to your doorsteps, they can get boot brushes that come in different designs. Boot brushes come in iron or metal shaped like animals. The stiff bristles protrude from the back of these boot brushes for guests to scrape the soles of their shoes on before entering a home.

Outdoor decor: gazing balls

Another outdoor décor that has come and gone and come again through the years is the gazing ball. The gazing ball is a sphere made out of glass, metal, and even ceramic, set out on the yard of someone’s house. In its early years, many people believed that a gazing ball could protect the house from evil spirits such as witches. Steel or metal gazing balls with mirror surfaces were preferred as any witch who catches her reflection on it would stay entranced and no longer go inside the home. Gazing balls have resurfaced in modern times. Modern gazing balls can now also function as light sources for your garden at night, some even charging up on solar energy during the day.

Outdoor decor: rain chains

Tired of hearing that sloshy sound from the gutter every time it rains? Transform meaningless and distracting dropping sounds with rain chains. Rain chains are outdoor décor that are Japanese in origin and are made up of a series of coper rings connected to form a chain. These are attached at the mouth of the downspout or gutter. Instead of flowing noisily, rainwater cascades through these rings, thereby, minimizing the noise.

Gnomes

A garden can take a turn for fantasy or just plain kitsch with the installation of a garden gnome or two. Garden gnomes are common outdoor décor that many homeowners install in their gardens or backyards. Ceramic or cement molded gnomes are favorite accessories that lend a friendly atmosphere to lawns, gardens, and yards.
