A bathroom is a room where people may relieve themselves, or take showers or baths. The connotation of “bathroom” actually differs in various cultures. Sometimes, a bathroom may only have a sink and a toilet. These bathrooms are also called lavatories. Some bathrooms, on the other hand, may also have bathtubs and showers. More modern ones may even include steam showers and other amenities.
All about bathrooms
Bathrooms are distinguished by the amenities it can offer the user. A bathroom with a bathtub, shower, toiler, and sink is referred to as a full bath. A half bath is a bathroom that only has toilets and sinks. This may also be called “powder room.” A ľ bath therefore refers to a bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower.
Aside from distinguishing bathrooms by their amenities, bathrooms also have different “types.” There is the “en-suite” bathroom, referring to a bathroom that is adjacent to a room. However, if the room adjacent to the bathroom is the master bedroom, the bathroom is then referred to as the master bathroom. If the adjacent bathroom is attached to two rooms, the bathroom is then called a “Jack and Jill bathroom.”
How to set up bathrooms
There are many considerations when setting up a bathroom. Here are some tips:
1. Since the bathroom is a “wet” room, the materials used for the walls and other furnishings should not be sensitive to water. This means that these should not be stained easily by water. Likewise, these should be easily cleaned when necessary.
2. Plumbing is an essential in bathrooms. Have only a professional do your plumbing. The plumbing needs of bathrooms are tricky. For one thing, hot and cold water need to be set up in the shower. Likewise, waste materials should be easily processed with water from the toilet and sink. Getting these pipes mixed up can cause a big problem.
3. Consider using glass and plastic for some of the furnishings in the bathroom. This is because these materials are easy to clean and does not wear out fast even when constantly wet.
4. If you are considering having a mat or rug in the bathroom, make sure that these are water-resistant. It would be futile to have a rug or mat in the bathroom that absorbs and retains water.
5. Electric appliances should be fixtures that have permanent connections to electric sockets. This is a standard safety requirement in bathrooms. These appliances include heaters, light bulbs, and heater towel rails.
