Beds are bedroom furniture used primarily for sleeping or resting. Beds can be made of wooden or metal frames with foam mattresses on top of them. Some beds are made of double spring mattress boxes.
Bed types and designs
Beds date back to the ancient times, when Egyptians fashioned elevated bedsteads accessible with a few steps. These already had pillows or bolsters, and curtains hung on top for offer some privacy. Since then, beds have developed to how people know them now.
There are so many types of beds. Popular varieties of beds include futons, bunk beds, hospital beds, sofa beds, and waterbeds. Futons are Japanese-style beds that have become popular in the West. Bunk beds, on the other hand, are beds with two levels of single beds. The upper deck can be reach via a small ladder attached on the side of the bed.
Hospital beds are beds used primarily in care facilities. These beds have amenities, such as adjustable elevation of the upper and lower portions, as well as slots for administering medicine. Sofa beds are beds, which are used as sofas and can be converted into beds by nighttime. Waterbeds are beds with water as filler, instead of cotton, feathers and the like.
How to buy beds
It is always important to buy the right beds for the different rooms and users in your home.
Here are some tips:
1. Measure the room first before buying beds for it. It is important to be sure that the beds you select will fit the rooms intended for them. Do this with a simple tape measure. Be sure to allow space of about 15 to 18 inches around the beds. This is comfortable space for going about the room freely.
2. Think about who will use the beds and how these will be used. If you are buying a bed that’s shared by two, assess if these people move around a lot while sleeping. If so, buy king sized beds instead. King and queen sized beds are good for two people; however, queen sized beds are a bit smaller. Double beds (or full-sized beds) are big for one person but may be too small for two.
3. Consider bunk beds if you have young kids at home. Bunk beds are space savers, while providing ample sleeping space for the kids.
4. Consider toddler beds if you have a growing child at home. A child may quickly outgrow cribs, and it becomes more practical to get toddler beds. Toddler beds may come with guardrails.
