Hate those sheets of fabric billowing from the window? Then consider getting blinds instead. Blinds are window coverings that function much the same way as curtains do. The need for privacy or for lesser light from the outside is addressed with just a few turns of the rod instead of having to spread fabric across the windows. Blinds are also perfect matches to any window, giving a modern and simple look that functions well without the flouncy excesses of lace or fabric curtains.
Types of blinds
There are many types of blinds to choose from.
Wooden blinds
One of the first blinds were made of wooden slats threaded together by strings on either side. The first wooden blinds were opened and closed by rolling them up or down. There are very narrow gaps in between the wooden slats that let in a small amount of light and air to pass through. Wooden blinds can give a tropical or country feel when used in a room. However, since wood is organic, wooden blinds are easy to degenerate if exposed to harsh elements through time. To still achieve that tropical or country feel, faux wood blinds can be used instead.
Venetian Blinds
Venetian blinds were first brought to Venice, Italy in the 1700s and were probably made of thin wooden slats threaded together. Over time, metal and vinyl became the material of choice for venetian blinds. Venetian blinds opened and closed through a method that adjusted the slants to control the amount of passage of light. This was patented in 1841.
Mini blinds
Mini blinds are a type of Venetian blinds that have smaller or narrower slats. Most mini blinds are also attached directly within the window frame instead of being just an add-on on the wall. Mini blinds can also be made out of vinyl, metal, and even aluminum. Though mini blinds easily get dirty, they’re easy to clean especially those that are made of vinyl or plastic. Mini blinds that offer more privacy are also available. These privacy mini blinds don’t have visible holes where the strings are threaded through but instead have notches at the back that completely hide the connecting strings.
Vertical blinds
Vertical blinds offer the same protection and regulation of light; the only difference is the orientation of its slats. Instead of lying horizontally, this type of blinds have the slats upright or vertical. The slats in vertical blinds also regulate the amount of light and air that pass through.

I am looking for “solar blinds” that you can see out of but it keeps some sun and heat out.
