A kitchen is the part of the house where food and meals are prepared. A kitchen may be a room or just a section of the home. It usually contains basic cooking tools, such as a stove and pots and pans, and more modern gadgets, such as a microwave oven and a food processor. Apart from the cooking section of a kitchen, it also has a sink and some storage cabinets.

All about kitchens

As they say, the kitchen is the most lovely part of the house. This is where meals are lovingly prepared. In some cases, the kitchen is also where meals are shared.

A typical modern kitchen contains a cooking stove, sink, microwave oven, refrigerator, some cabinets, and a dishwasher. A breakfast table may be located in this area too.

The kitchen only came about towards the end of the 18th century. It was as this time when cooking was beginning to veer away from the use of charcoal or open fire. Advancements in cooking then allowed home designers to incorporate a cooking space within the home.

There are several types of kitchens that can be observed in modern homes. The single-file kitchen is the typical kitchen in homes where space is limited. Here, the sink, stove, refrigerator and cabinets all align in a single line. The double-file kitchen, on the other hand, has two rows. Each row has cabinets. The stove, sink and refrigerator may be located in either row. The L-kitchen has a work area that’s shaped like an L while the U-kitchen has an area shaped like a U. The island kitchen or block kitchen is a popular option when space is not an issue. Here, there is a mix of an L or a U-kitchen with a center island, which is additional workspace.

How To Organize Kitchens

The kitchen can be one of the busiest rooms in the house. Here are ways to keep things organized while in the kitchen:
1. Throw out what you don’t need. Many make the mistake of keeping things, until their kitchen begins to look like a storage areas for unused stuff. Get only what you need. Throw the rest out.

2. Pots, pans and other cooking utensils should be near the stove. Easy access is the idea. This goes the same with eating utensils, china ware, silverware and glassware. These should be kept near the dishwasher or near the dining area.

3. Hazardous chemicals, such as bleach, pesticides and cleaning aids, should not be kept under the sink. These should ideally be located away from children’s reach.
