Kitchen appliances are appliances that are used to prepare or cook food, or maintain cleanliness in the kitchen. Basic kitchen appliances include the stove and the refrigerator. More modern kitchens also have a microwave oven, dish washer, food processor, coffee maker, and more.

All about kitchen appliances

There really is no focal development period for kitchen appliances. These tools in the kitchen had development curves on their own. However, these probably would have never come about without the progress made in the basic stove. Stoves used for cooking progressed from open-fire or coal stoves. Gas (and soon, electric) stoves were developed. Indoor cooking areas became possible. Soon, this became the norm. As cooking became more efficient and fast, so did cooking storage and preparation. Thus, people soon had food processors, coffee makers, refrigerators, and freezers.

Kitchens have different kitchen appliances. There is no standard on what a kitchen should have or shouldn’t have. The basic remains centered only on the stove and the refrigerator. In some really complete kitchens, you may even find pasta makers, ice cream makers, and the like.

How to organize kitchen appliances

Here are some tips in organizing your kitchen appliances:

1. Keep the kitchen appliances that you tend to use regularly close by. Make space for them in the countertop of your kitchen.

2. Kitchen appliances you use only about once or twice a week should be kept inside kitchen cabinets. These don’t have to be out when unused.

3. If possible, set up an under-the-cabinet microwave oven. While this may initially cost more, in the end, it’s a great space saver.

4. Keep cords away from children’s reach. A toddler may inadvertently pull on a cord, and have the appliance tumbling down on him or her.

5. An appliance barn may help you in organizing your kitchen and giving it a neat, uncluttered look. An appliance barn is an enclosed countertop area where you can store kitchen appliances, keeping them out of sight unless used.

6. It sometimes pays to group together kitchen appliances. For example, you can organize your toaster, juicer, and coffee maker together. These are the kitchen appliances you often use to make breakfasts. Likewise, baking appliances such as a dough maker and an oven go side-by-side.

7. Look shouldn’t matter as much when it comes to kitchen appliances. However, you have an option to mix and match according to theme these days. Some kitchen appliances offer color options. You can opt for an all-black kitchen motif, with black-hued appliances.
