The proper lighting can make a room or an area of a home look more pleasant. By providing the proper amount of illumination, the proper lighting devices and placements can set a mood or theme in each area. Conceptualized lighting, however, need not be confined only to the indoors, especially if one has a spectacular garden or outdoor area. This is where outdoor lighting comes in. Though there may be other light sources available such as the street lamp, the moon, or the light flowing out from the interior, these are not enough to make the outdoor area a nightscape beauty. There are different types of outdoor lighting options and placements that homeowners can choose from.
Types of outdoor lighting
Outdoor lighting: landscape lighting
Landscape lighting is the type of illumination system put in strategic places in the garden or outdoor area. There are different kinds of lights that can be used for the purpose of highlighting certain features and objects in a landscape. Landscape lighting uses a system of lights of usually six to eight lights stretched out on 100 feet of electrical wire buried under the ground or camouflaged.
Outdoor lighting: path lights
This type of outdoor lighting can help illuminate a pathway or a foot trail in the garden or outdoor area. Path lights are installed along the sides of trails or pathways to guide passers by along the right path. Path lights can also provide accents to pathways and foot trails at night and even during the day.
Outdoor lighting: spotlights
Spotlights emphasize certain parts of the garden or the outdoor area. Homeowners usually install spotlights on sculptures, plants, and other interesting items or areas in their outdoors to direct attention to these. When installing a spotlight, however, it would be better if there are no other nearby light sources that could distract the viewer. If there are other light sources near the object or area of attention, using spotlights that emit brighter light can be used to maintain attention.
Outdoor lighting: floodlights
Like spotlights, floodlights are used in outdoor lighting to provide more illumination to specific areas or objects. Instead of just directing attention for show, floodlights are used to illuminate specific areas for security and safety purposes. Areas such as driveways and even stadiums are illuminated with floodlights for ease of usage. A brightly lit entrance to a home also discourages intruders from entering for fear of being clearly seen.
