Pillows are functional items for the home. Pillows not only provide support for a weary head. Pillows can also add style to a home. These are used not only for the bedrooms. Pillows can be found in the living room, den, or lounge. They are used to decorate sofa sets and the like.
All about pillows
There was a time when pillows were limited only to the wealthy. These had even been found in Ancient Egyptian tombs, testament to their value at that time. This was primarily because of the complexity in the sewing and dyeing of pillows in the past. Pillows were prized commodities, integral to trading back then. They were highly valued in Persia and China, and eventually in Medieval Europe. The advent of the Industrial Revolution allowed pillows to be available to everyone.
Pillows are styled clothing that are made of silk, cotton and other fabrics. These are stuffed with foam, feathers, synthetic fillers or down. The most expensive pillows use feather or down.
Decorative pillows are also called throw pillows. These are often found in sofa sets, couches and other seating implements. These decorative pillows also serve a double purpose. Apart from adding to the style of the room, decorative pillows also function in providing ample back support or head support. These pillows allow seat to adjust to the curve of its user’s back.
How to decorate with pillows
There are endless possibilities when decorating with pillows. Here are some tips on how to get started:
1. Buy a variety of pillows, according to the theme of the rooms you will use these for. Buy pillows that vary in fabric, cloth design, and size. If possible, purchase pillows with big and small patterns.
2. A pillow with patterns can add style to a chair or sofa set that has a solid color. It is the same vice versa. Solid-colored pillows can add style to chairs or sofa sets with patterned upholstery.
3. You can also use pillows to decorate bare areas in your room. Use throw pillows to decorate bare floors or corners.
4. Remember that odds are better than evens. Decorate pillows in odd numbers – 3 or 5 – instead of in pairs.
5. Add density to your interior design by mixing small pillows with big ones. This also adds a lot of character and playfulness to the room. This goes the same with playing with pillows with small and big patterns.
