Rugs are functional floor decorations. Rugs can keep dust and debris off other places in the home. Likewise, rugs look great, and can add character and style to your home.
All about rugs
Rugs refer to any loom-woven and felted textile. These rugs come in different types. There are woven rugs, which are the most expensive. These rugs are created using cut piles of colored yarns and looms. Woven rugs come in patterns of different colors and designs. Needlefelt rugs, on the other hand, are common in hotels. These rugs are created through the electric attraction of synthetic fibers. Knotted rugs have structural and supplementary wefts that knot with each other, making an intricate design. There are other types of rugs, all having their own values and advantages.
Most of the differences with rugs are because of their designs and roots. Persian rugs are some of the more in demand rugs. Likewise, rugs may carry patterns and décor that suit a home’s motif.
How to buy rugs
The major considerations in buying rugs are its make, roots and designs. Here are some tips on what to look for when buying rugs.
1. Don’t dismiss normal wear. Rugs, especially the oriental and Persian kinds, have signs of normal wear on them. This does not mean that they are worn-out buys. These are standard in many rugs, and you would need to assess purchasing these on other terms.
2. There are many standards in judging the quality of rugs. First of all, the patterns of quality rugs will likely be complex and rich. There are more knots per square inch. Ask your dealer if natural dyes were used. Natural dyes are of better quality and give the rugs more value.
3. Select unwashed rugs over washed ones. These come off as more authentic and richer.
4. Select rugs with the room in mind. If you are buying rugs for a certain room, determine the area of the room and the area that you need covered with rugs. Rugs come in standard sizes: 8 X 10 inches, and 9 X 12 inches. There are smaller options that are good for more narrow or smaller rooms.
5. Rugs are investments. These are also very delicate properties. Expect to incur a recurring maintenance cost for cleaning and repairing rugs. The more valuable your rugs are, the more costly it will be to clean and maintain.
