Wardrobes refer to freestanding closets or armoire. These wardrobes are fixtures in European rooms, and less common in American households. They may hold clothes and other items of the bedroom’s owner.

More about wardrobes

Historically, wardrobes began as chests where clothes were kept. As the need for luxury grew, the taller version of chests came out. These came complete with drawers and other compartments and shelves. These developed into the wardrobes that most know today.

The sizes of wardrobes vary. The common measure though is that wardrobes should at least fit eight small men. Wardrobes have been known to fit the different outfits, house clothes, and underwear of their owners. These days, the size of wardrobes is also dependent on the size of the rooms that these will be placed in.

Wardrobes are made of wood. Historically, walnut and oak were popular materials for wardrobes. Later on, satinwood and mahogany became popular materials for wardrobes.

Choosing and buying wardrobes

Wardrobes are just like any bedroom furniture. There are a few considerations when buying wardrobes. Here are some tips:

1. Like for any other bedroom furniture, determine the amount of space you have for wardrobes first. A basic tape measure can work for you. Note that you need at least fifteen to eighteen inches of space for furniture in the bedroom. This provides comfortable space to move about. Keep this in mind when allotting space for wardrobes.

2. Go online to research on available wardrobes and their sizes. Once you have the dimension that you need, you need to know your options. Online is the best place to start. With online research, you can immediately know your options in terms of brand and budget. You may even consider ordering online if the delivery costs are minimal.

3. Go to the furniture shop to buy wardrobes or have custom wardrobes done. Make sure that you know what you are looking for already. This hastens the buying transaction.

4. Double-check the dimensions of your selected wardrobes. Make sure that these will fit the rooms they are intended for. Likewise, inspect its interiors and determine that these have the space and compartments that you would need from wardrobes.

5. Arrange for delivery. Wardrobes may be one of the heaviest furniture to deliver, especially if these are made of hardwood. Make arrangements for its delivery. Clear a path towards the rooms and have their space ready.
